"Endometrial Polyps" - What are they?

I'm going through IVF and my ultrasound found a Polyp. Do I need to remove it?

This is a common question that many patients ask, so let's break it down.

What is a Polyp anyway?

An Endometrial Polyp is a small squishy growth that grows inside your uterine cavity, and it is almost always benign, which means it's not cancerous. But polyps can cause some symptoms, like spotting, irregular bleeding and also infertility. So for patients who are undergoing IVF, polyps are often in the way of an embryo actually implanting into the uterine cavity.

So before doing IVF, your doctor may want your cavity to be as perfect as possible. So if there are fibroids or polyps or anything that really shouldn't be there, they're going to ask you to have that removed. So when that embryo goes in, it has the best chance to implant and go on to be a successful pregnancy.

If you are somebody who has an Endometrial Polyp and your doctor asks you to remove it, don't worry. It is a quick same day procedure. It takes only about 15 minutes. Get it done so you can go on to have the best chance for a successful pregnancy.
